Sex Education is not taught as a separate subject in the school, but rather is introduced through various theme works e.g. “Myself” or when a suitable situation arises.
Staff are encouraged to answer the children’s questions openly and honestly, using their professional judgement with regards to the child’s age, maturity and understanding.
When questions arise, it is the duty of the teachers to answer them in the manner described above.
The school nurse, gives a talk to year 6 pupils about puberty and their developing bodies and answers their questions. Parents may withdraw their child from a part/all of sex education that does not form part of the National Curriculum.
