Healthy Schools

Our school is proud to be a part of the Carmarthenshire Healthy Schools scheme. This status is very important to us at Ysgol Pontyberem as we pride ourselves on having a healthy school.

At present our new goal is to gain the National Quality Mark for Healthy Schools. It is a voluntary scheme for schools that recognises and encourages contribution to supporting pupils’ health and wellbeing. ‘It celebrates the positive actions that schools are delivering in terms of healthy eating and physical activity and aims to help schools identify useful next steps in their provision.’

To gain the National Quality Mark we must evidence the following 7 topics to ensure we are providing the best for our learners.

The 7 factors when considering Healthy Schools are:

  • Food and fitness
  • Mental and emotional health and wellbeing
  • Personal development and relationships
  • Substance use and misuse
  • Hygiene
  • The environment
  • Safety

With the guidance and support of staff, governors and parents we know we can ensure our learners receive the best values, support and feel pride for being a healthy school.
