Our Vision

At Pontyberem School we ensure a happy, welcoming, Welsh atmosphere and encourage each individual to succeed and reach their full potential.

Our School

Pontyberem Primary School is located in the heart of the Gwendraeth Valley and between the towns of Carmarthen and Llanelli. The present school was opened in Pontyberem in September 1984 when the Infants School in Llannon Road and the Junior School on the village square were closed. Previously, the building was used as a Secondary Modern School. On the 8th July, 2019, the school was re-opened following a complete refurbishment and investment by Carmarthenshire County Council and Welsh Assembly Goverment.

We are a village school where the majority of the curriculum is taught through the medium of Welsh. Here, there are approximately 250 pupils receiving full-time education. We offer large playgrounds, a football and rugby field, tennis/netball courts and well resourced classrooms in order to enhance learning for every individual at Pontyberem Primary School.

Aims of Our School:

The school exists to help children to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become useful, caring members of an ever-changing society, within a happy, stable and safe environment which encourages progression through the various stages of childhood. Our aims are to support our learners to be:

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
